A Bit About Me
I am a trained Counsellor and a Social Work Fellow specialising in Grief & Bereavement and Palliative & End-of-Life Care from the renowned Beth Israel Medical Centre in New York. I am humbled to have been recognised for my contribution in attending to the psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones in both the health and social service sectors as recipient of the Singapore "Healthcare Humanity Award" in 2008. I am also the first author of a book chapter on "Global Voices from a Global Perspective: Palliative Social Work in Singapore," published in the distinguished Oxford Textbook of Palliative Social Work.
With more than 20 years of experience in both the health and social service sector as a practitioner and leader, I have supported many children, adolescents, adults, couples and families with a wide range of mental health challenges, including grief and bereavement for death and non-death losses; family and caregiver stress; low mood; anxiety; emotion regulation, self-harm, and relationships difficulties. I adopt a variety of therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); Person-Centered Therapy; Systemic Psychotherapy; Schema Therapy; Solution-Focused Brief Therapy; Meaning-Centered Psychotherapy; and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in my work with clients.
I believe support needs to extend well beyond the confines of a therapy room. I am a Registered Clinical Supervisor, an ACLP (Advanced Certificate in Learning for Performance) Certified Trainer and Adult Educator, and am certified as an Advanced Care Planning (ACP) Facilitator and Trainer. I am on the expert faculty for the Certificate in Community Palliative Care (CCPC). I am passionate about developing customised training for upscaling professionals in the area of suicide risk assessment and intervention, interdisciplinary teamwork, communication skills training, person-centred care, self-care and more. I am privileged to have led and supervised various interdisciplinary teams consisting of Social Workers, Counsellors, Caseworkers, Social Work Associates, Thanatologists, Art and Music Therapists, Family and Couple Therapists, Clinical Psychologists and Associate Psychologists.
